Sadia Salman

Salaam! I am a junior double majoring in math and economics and minoring in international/global studies. I started off by doodling henna designs in the corners of my notes when bored in class and it grew from there into different kinds of henna-like/inspired art like mandalas and zentangle patters (pens are a lot more cooperative than henna cones). Besides drawing and looking for inspiration on Pinterest, I enjoy spending time with friends, reading, and binge (re)watching Sherlock or Downton Abbey.

Usra Attalla

I am sophomore at Mason Gross School of the Arts majoring in Design with a concentration in Printmaking. I am very  visual arts based and enjoy experimenting with different mediums and learning about the arts to progress in my field.

Sarah Attalla

I am a second year Design and Printmaking major. I hope to help Muslims expand in the art field and take on the challenge of making art.

Zahra Bukhari

I am in my third year at Mason Gross School of the Arts majoring in Visual Arts with a double concentration in Print and Design and a minor in Gender and Media. My other academic interests include Islamic Studies, Media Art and Women’s Studies. In my free time I enjoy hiking, skiing and writing and playing music. I joined Submissions to encourage and support the growth of Muslim artists by having a space for artists to express themselves and showcase their work for the larger community.

Bara Elhag

Basically I’m an idiot savant. Junior, CBN and English Double Major. Beautiful words and moxie are what my cupid dips his arrows into.

Kausar Ahmed

I am a sophomore in the School of Arts and Sciences and is majoring in Mathematics. In my free time I enjoy reading and writing whatever awesome thoughts run through my head. I also enjoy having fun with friends and family. My favorite colors are red and orange and my favorite food/snacks are plantains. I joined Submissions because I have always wanted a safe platform to share my work. I used to be afraid to share my words but one day, I decided that it wouldn’t hurt to do so :-).

Puja Trivedi

I am a rising junior at Rutgers Business School (New Brunswick) and am also pursuing a double major in marketing and supply chain with hopes of landing a full time job in an advertising agency, hopefully in New York City. As a commuter, I usually spends my time in Kilmer library, and one of my favorite things to do is to go cafe hopping with friends. Writing has been a passion of mine since I was little, and I love to journal in my free time. My writing is usually very personal, but I think submissions is a great way to get out of your comfort zone, and have your writing shared with a very accepting and interested community of readers!

 Zeeshan Qureshi

Salaam! I’m a junior majoring in Electrical and Computer Engineering with a minor in Middle Eastern Studies. On my down time, I often find myself pondering existential issues such as the perfect ratio between cheese and sauce on pizza, or why anyone hasn’t come up with resealable cereal bags. Otherwise, you can find me on the tennis court, lounging around at Paul Robeson Cultural Center, or at the local ice cream joint. Oh ice cream. Ours is a passionate love affair. A better love story than Twilight if you may. If I were a government official, you wouldn’t need millions of dollars to bribe me, but just a few pints of Halo Farm.

Talyah Basit

I am a third year student double majoring in English Literature and Political Science with a minor in Philosophy. I enjoy writing, swimming, watching movies before ruining them for everyone else, and trying to replicate the contestants’ dishes from Masterchef. I plan on pursuing an advanced degree in comparative literature and/or going to law school. I also hope to start a non-profit organization that encourages artistic endeavors among marginalized communities.

Ghayoor Arshad

Assalaamu’alaykum Wa Rahmatullaahi Wa Barakaatuh, my name is Ghayoor Arshad, I am currently a Junior in college and I am following the premed track. My most favorite thing to do is drive at an alarming rate of speed whilst listening to Qur’an by my favorite reciter. I thoroughly enjoy the tech scene, particularly the automotive industry as well as smartphones and the like. My tastes are as average as they come, although I’ve been told that I’m rather selective. In terms of my writing, I’ve never really pursued writing as a hobby or a legitimate interest other than writing essays for classmates here and there. I’ve written articles for publications such as ICNA and YoungMuslims, but I rarely ever sit down and just write without a goal or deadline. However, my joining Submissions this year seems apropos, as I enter the latter half of my college career with nothing to show of my genuine adoration of writing. I hope to simply convey my thoughts on the issues that seem pertinent to me, and enter in prodictive dialogue, and perhaps even inspire someone else to write what’s on their mind.

Hira Shahbaz

I am a junior majoring in Political Science, minoring in International and Global Studies. When not challenging strangers to Smash Bros duels (Brawl or go home) I am generally in the backyard gardening, raiding the fridge or ducking around on YouTube and Twitter. We can exchange info on stuff ranging from books to cats to which Assassin’s Creed is the best. Picking apart languages and words is my mostly healthy addiction. Fun fact: I went out of my way to fit a class into my schedule because Star Trek: The Undiscovered Country was on the syllabus. Clearly, I have my priorities in order.

Zainab Anwar

Junior. Labor studies major. Coffee Addict.

Michael Chuang

I’m Michael, a fourth year pharmacy student. I am a complex fellow unscathed by societal norms or pressures. For example, I only read 6 Harry Potter books. I spend my time walking on top of chairs and other types of furniture. You can often find me moderating plant growth or wearing my typical clothing including my staple beanie or fitted gray hat.

Book Club

Humza Farrukh

I’m a junor and I plan on majoring in Cell Biology & Neuroscience with a minor in English. I like to read.

Mohsin Raza

My major is Public Health and I hope to go into Health Admin. The reason why I joined submissions was because I saw the impact that it has brought to the community. Allowing for expression with words and art and inspiring so many. I just wanna be part of that, heal and help with my words

Kaitlin Leyble

Hey everyone, I’m Kaitlin. I’m currently a junior and am majoring in psychology. I can usually be found journaling, reading, or listening to music. I also really enjoy hiking, running, and longboarding. Anyway, I joined submissions because it’s made up of two things I love: MSA and artistic expression. Over the course of this semester and the next, I hope to encourage everyone to share their work and write more as well. As a side note, if you ever need anything, please don’t hesitate to talk to me.
